Volunteering

We are extremely grateful to our 40 or more volunteers, who dedicate their time to supporting our community. These include: Cooks, Cooks assistants, Servers, Drivers, Shoppers, Cafe staff, Advisors, Administrator, Telephone receptionist, in-fact most of our volunteers wear several hats, and help out with whatever is needed, we have unblocked drains, tuned TVs, moved furniture… The list is almost endless. Without these special people, committed to Wraysbury & Horton Voluntary Care, we simply could not function.

In this current climate with cut backs, the increase in people needing some support or assistance, means that we can definitely find a role that suits you.

In 2015-2016, 41% of people in the UK reported formally volunteering at least once in the previous year (IVR.org.uk). Surveys and studies have revealed that the benefits of dedicating your time to a charitable cause extend far beyond the good you do for others.

Those who volunteer are happier people!

Although the idea of giving back to society is often persuasion enough to volunteer, donating time to a good cause can positively impact the individual in other ways too.

As well as the sense of gratification gained from giving your time to people who need it, you can also benefit from many other mental and physical gains such as:

  • Increased confidence by trying something new
  • Meeting new people and being part of a community
  • Learning new skills
  • Being active (depending on the role)
  • Having fun!

The social values of volunteering are numerous but, as you might imagine, difficult to quantify. Studies have however, revealed that volunteers are generally happier and healthier than non-volunteers (ons.gov.uk).

As well as this, volunteer work reflects well on the individual who is willing to donate their time and energy into helping others, without asking for anything in return, is an indication of their morals and good nature.

WHVC Volunteers

Wraysbury & Horton Voluntary Care is completely run by Volunteers to help our community, the more volunteers we have, the more services and help we can offer. We need volunteers with various qualifications and experience from previous roles which will benefit our community. Each volunteer is carefully vetted to confirm that they meet our standards. This is crucial in ensuring that we deliver the best service and care possible.

Everyone at WHVC is incredibly passionate about our community and it’s crucial that all our volunteers feel rewarded and enthusiastic for the help they give.

We do not expect significant time commitments, if you can spare a few hours every week, or even every few weeks, we will find a role that suits you, if you have a specific service you would like to offer the community, on a voluntary basis, then please speak with us.
